In-person: Compassion and Allyship with Esther Slattery & River Wolton
26 March 2023 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
£13.00 – £35.00EVENT DESCRIPTION
Cultivating allyship means that we open to the suffering we would not otherwise notice and be moved to lessen it, motivated by compassion for all and from a foundation of embodiment, self-care and steadiness. Allyship asks us to untangle conditioning, become aware of unconscious bias and become actively compassionate to heal the wounds and micro-aggressions which arise when we create ‘other’.
This retreat will offer guided practices of mettā (friendliness) and self-compassion as foundations for the discernment, honesty and openness required to create collective change. We will explore how the wisdom of the Dharma is invaluable for the empowering and humbling practices of diversity and inclusion. We acknowledge that the term ‘allyship’ is imperfect, but it can offer a functional framework for learning. As well as guided meditations, there will be reflections from the teachers and opportunities for discussion. All are warmly welcome.
