In-person: The Dharma of Pleasure with Bernat Font
9 July 2023 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
£15.00 – £50.00EVENT DESCRIPTION
The widespread idea that Buddhism is against pleasure is a misunderstanding. Even whether it is against desire is debatable, but it is certainly not against feeling good. In fact, early Buddhism is a form of refined hedonism, a perspective we have lost sight of, but which can balance excessively ‘rationalist’ approaches to dharma practice.
Attending to the way things feel (vedanā) without biases, we can learn to discern what pleasures nourish and brighten us, which bring us closer to others, how the pleasant can help gather the mind rather than scatter it, and how it can become a cause for insight. We will explore this through talks, meditation practice, and reflections.
